Everything visiting CrossFitters need to know about training in Phuket — from drop-in rates to what to bring and how to find the right box.

CrossFit in Phuket: Boxes, WODs, and What to Expect as a Visitor

CrossFit has a growing presence in Phuket, with several boxes catering to both expats and visiting athletes. Whether you are mid-vacation and missing your regular WODs, or you have a longer stay planned and want consistent training, Phuket has options worth knowing about.

The CrossFit Scene in Phuket

The island does not have dozens of boxes, but the ones that exist are well-equipped and take training seriously. Most are located near Rawai, Chalong, and Phuket Town. A few are tucked into resort complexes, which can be convenient if you happen to be staying nearby.

Most boxes run morning and evening classes, with midday sessions on weekdays. Drop-in visitors are usually welcome, though booking in advance is strongly recommended, especially during high season (November through April). Classes typically run 60 minutes: a structured warm-up, skill or strength work, and the WOD.

Drop-In Rates and Membership

Drop-in fees range from about 500 to 800 THB per class. Monthly memberships (for those staying longer) run around 4,000 to 6,500 THB. Some boxes offer a 10-class punch card that works well for a two-week stay.

Most boxes accept cash. A few have moved to card or app-based payment, so it is worth checking before you go.

What to Bring and Expect

Phuket boxes are generally well-maintained, with the standard equipment you would expect: barbells, bumper plates, pull-up rigs, rowers, and kettlebells. Air conditioning varies. Some boxes are fully air-conditioned; others are open-air with fans. In the hot months (April through June), the open-air setup can be intense. Check with the box before booking if this matters to you.

Water is almost always available to buy on-site. Bring your own lifting shoes if you have them. Chalk is typically available, though sometimes limited.

Scaling and Community

One thing travelers sometimes worry about is scaling. You do not need to be a competitive CrossFitter to drop in. The coaches at Phuket boxes are used to visitors at varying fitness levels and will scale movements as needed. The community tends to be welcoming, a mix of local expats, long-stay digital nomads, and vacationers passing through.

Phuket also hosts occasional competitions and in-box events. If your timing aligns, these can be a great way to connect with the local athletic community.

Tips for Visiting CrossFitters

Show up a few minutes early to introduce yourself to the coach. Let them know your experience level and any movement restrictions. Most coaches will appreciate the heads-up and can adjust your scaling accordingly.

If you are dealing with jet lag or adjusting to the heat, the evening classes can be easier on the body than the early morning sessions. Give yourself a day or two to acclimate before going full intensity.

Check the box's Instagram or Facebook page before your visit. Many boxes post their class schedules and WODs in advance, so you can plan around particularly grueling sessions if you want to.
