Most people think of Koh Samui as just a place for bucket drinks and fire shows on the beach. While that’s definitely there if you want it, the island has quietly become one of the best spots in Thailand to actually feel better than when you arrived.

I spent some time there last month checking out the wellness scene. It’s different from Phuket. Where Phuket feels high-energy and intense, Samui has a slower pace that makes it easier to stick to a routine without feeling like you’re in a bootcamp.

If you’re looking to train, there are some great options that aren't just for fighters. Lamai Muay Thai Camp is a classic choice, but I also loved the vibe at Samui Fitness Club. They have everything you need for a solid workout without the pretentiousness you sometimes find in bigger cities.

For those who want to slow down, the yoga scene is incredible. Samui Yoga Retreat is a beautiful spot to disconnect. I found that the best way to enjoy Samui is to start early. The heat gets real by 10 AM, so get your workout or yoga session in while the air is still fresh.

You can find more options on our Koh Samui finder page if you're planning a trip soon. It's worth looking beyond the main tourist strips to find the smaller, local gems that make this island special.
