The best outdoor gyms in Phuket: where to train under the sun\n\nTraining outdoors in Phuket is an experience you won't get in a basement gym back home. You have the ocean breeze, the sound of the jungle, and usually a massive cold coconut waiting for you afterward. While the island has plenty of fancy, air-conditioned fitness centers, the real heart of the scene is in the open-air spots.\n\nI've spent years exploring the island's gyms. Here are the ones I keep going back to when I want a serious workout without the artificial lights.\n\n## Muscle Bar (Nai Harn)\n\nMuscle Bar is tucked away near Nai Harn Beach, and it's about as "old school" as it gets. It's a covered, open-air space that focuses on the basics: heavy weights, solid racks, and people who are actually there to train.\n\nWhat I like most here is the vibe. You'll see a mix of locals, long-term expats, and travelers. There's no ego, just people putting in the work. It gets hot, but the breeze from the nearby lake and beach helps. It’s my favorite spot for a lifting session before a sunset swim. Check out more details in our Phuket Finder.\n\n## Tiger Muay Thai (Soi Taied, Chalong)\n\nSoi Taied is the center of Phuket's fitness universe, and Tiger Muay Thai is the big name on the street. It’s a huge facility, but the best part is the open-air Muay Thai and MMA sections.\n\nTraining here feels like being at a professional sports camp. Even if you aren't a fighter, their "BodyFit" and "Cross-Training" classes are held in open pavilions and they are brutal. It’s intense, sweaty, and exactly what people come to Chalong for. For a full breakdown of the area, see our Soi Taied guide.\n\n## Rawai Muay Thai\n\nIf you're further south in Rawai, this camp is a great choice. It's quieter than the Chalong giants and feels more like part of the neighborhood. It's surrounded by palm trees and has a very traditional feel.\n\nI recommend Rawai Muay Thai if you want to focus on technique without the massive crowds. The trainers are patient and the open layout catches the wind perfectly. It’s a solid spot whether you're just starting out or you've been training for years.\n\n## Stay Fit (Rawai)\n\nStay Fit is part of the Stay Wellbeing & Lifestyle Resort. They have a nice indoor gym, but their outdoor "Station" is the real highlight. It's a massive functional training rig that’s basically an adult playground.\n\nIt's modern and clean, with everything from kettlebells and medicine balls to climbing ropes and sleds. It's a good middle ground if you want that functional training intensity but prefer a "premium" environment over a warehouse gym. Their recovery center with ice baths and saunas is also worth the visit.\n\n## Tips for outdoor training in Phuket\n\n* Watch the clock: The Phuket sun is brutal from 11 AM to 3 PM. I try to finish by 9 AM or wait until after 4:30 PM.\n* Electrolytes are mandatory: You'll sweat more than you think. Water isn't enough; get those 7-Eleven electrolyte packets.\n* Bring two towels: One for you, one for the equipment. You'll be drenched in minutes.\n* Rain happens: During monsoon season, don't let a clear sky fool you. Most of these gyms have roofs, but a heavy storm will still get you wet.\n\nLifting weights or hitting pads while looking at palm trees is a great way to stay motivated. It’s a lot more interesting than staring at a TV in a hotel gym.\n\nIf you're deciding where to base yourself, check our Thailand fitness cities comparison. See you at the gym!
